Hojo (法定) is the Kashima Shinden Jiki Shin Kage Ryu (school) and is the law establishing the Way of swordsmanship. The objective of Hojo is to cut all the habits one has acquired since birth so that one may return to the original self (Buddha nature). Attention is focused on the Kiai (vibration) which emulates the four seasons; spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The mind, Ki, and body must work as one (Shin Ki Roku Ichi) in the development of Hara. Habits must be taken away by cutting the center of one’s being. To be in accord with the myriad changes, the development of the non-thinking, no-thought mind is necessary. The path is in the middle, not light, not heavy, not attached, not free.
